One Interesting Individual

The ability to complete a Rubik’s cube in under a minute is not a trait one can see when they look at a person. Scott Webster possesses this extraordinary super power that ordinary human beings can only dream of possessing. When he isn’t solving Rubik’s cubes, Scott is an easy-going, friendly guy who seems quiet at first but definitely opens up when one cracks the proverbial shell.

Scott Webster was born to Carol and Alan Webster on January 22nd, 1989 in Lynchburg, Virginia. His father, a nurse in the army working graveyard shifts at the time, started his training as an Episcopalian minister alongside Scott’s mother who started doing insurance work in Lynchburg while Scott grew up. His mother currently handles the insurance for his father’s church and the majority of the Southwest Diocese. Sean, Scott’s older brother, is now 22 and graduated Emory and Henry with a degree in history.
Scott’s early life in Lynchburg shaped him into the kind, humorous and easy going person he is today. The summer before high school Scott and his family moved to Waynesboro where he met some of his best friends and grew to be the person one would get to know now. When Scott moved to Waynesboro, his faith and kindness towards others remained a large part in his life. Youth group has always made up a large part of Scott’s activities and over the summer leading up to his junior year of high school Scott went to Mississippi to gut houses following hurricane Katrina with his youth group. Scott’s friend Jacob Moen was quoted saying “I’ve always been drawn to Scott because of his sense of humor and love of all things.” While Scott is a caring individual, he does have his sense of humor. Once, during his homecoming dance, Scott crowd surfed across the entire student body to the song “shout”.

Scott has always had a background in music, accompanying his faith and interesting activities. Scott played the trumpet for a while in high school, and plans to play in the symphonic band here at tech next semester and the following years. He has a massive range in his musical taste, from country to ska to punk rock, Scott enjoys hearing new sound and is incredibly open minded. Some of his favorite bands are Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto and Miles Davis, these bands being his favorites because of the trumpet incorporated into them.

Scott really does have the amazing ability to solve a Rubik’s cube in under a minute. Scott began this hobby when he started doing the Rubik’s cube for his calculus class, where his teacher offered extra credit to anyone who could solve a cube in front of the entire class. Scott and a few pals worked up from the standard size Rubik’s cube to the larger Rubik’s cubes. Scott is also an ultimate Frisbee enthusiast. He has recent joined the club team here at tech and hopes to improve his Frisbee skills. He also enjoys a good round of hacky sack or halo with his pals in conglomeration with his interesting hobbies.

Many would say that Scott had an interesting high school career even with his hobbies and activities in faith which involved much of his time. Scott took an interest in his band classes until later in his high school career when he took an environmental science class, Scott found himself wanting to understand the class further. Scott hopes to make environmental engineering his major here at tech in the coming years.

During his time at Waynesboro high, Scott also enrolled in some extra-curriculars where he naturally excelled as he had in many of his other hobbies. While competing in track during his sophomore year, Scott was approached by his high schools cross country coach and asked to try out for the cross country team during the following season. Scott continued his running career taking part in the cross country team the following two years, indoor and outdoor track the following year and extending himself to the role of manager for his high school’s Varsity girl’s soccer team the spring of his senior year.

While Scott is an interesting individual and unquestionably a quality guy, he is also intent on his work here and has a sweetheart back home. Scott worked as a custodial assistant from August of 2006 until July, 2007 at the Charlottesville Historical Society building. His job entailed taking out the trash, mopping and taking general care of the building. Scott said that the job “helped him become a more disciplined person” and also helped ready him for school here at tech.

Scott has been seeing his girlfriend Anna for over a year. “I love hanging around with Scott because of he’s so sweet and he can be very spontaneous.” Anna said when asked about Scott. The two met around fall 2 years ago through Joe Eldridge, Scott’s close friend and Anna’s older brother, and also played in the high school band together. Scott and Anna still communicate frequently through phone calls, Instant Messaging and facebook, while Anna attends her senior year of high school at Waynesboro High. They plan to get together over breaks and whenever Scott can return home.

Scott Webster. A quiet Virginia Tech student on the outside, but a caring, interesting individual, that can change one’s outlook on life on the inside. Scott’s easy-going personality and fun hobbies make him quite an individual to hang around with, while his services helping out the community and his faith make him a wholehearted person. Looking towards the future, Scott hopes to become an environmental engineer after graduating here at Tech and moving on to continue his service towards society. Scott is truly an individual to meet.
